Ie: This is Rob doing what I call the Pulley Sit Up.

The pulley sit up is much more efficient than any other type of sit up because the vector of resistance is HORIZONTAL. Rather than a vertical resistance line caused by gravity (even if you hold a weight above your head.

In a vertical resistance line sit up, the top of the sit up is at rest (you relax your abs when you sit up)

In a horizontal resistance line you are engaging your rectus abdominis the entire time (especially if you curl your spine up instead of flat boarding it and using your hip flexors primarily) and the top of the sit up is the hardest part with the MOST engagement.

Additionally, with the raised pad underneath his base point the ROM(range of motion) becomes wider because he lays lower than flat, engaging his top pair of abs more efficiently.

Watch Rob demonstrate the Pulley Sit Up (also can be done with a band behind you) and imagine the stimulation he is creating for his washboard abs!

Ps* This is the depth that a highly trained professional can bring to your fitness journey. Book an appointment it’ll you would like to join 🙂
