Every personal trainer has heard the hurdle: “I don’t have time for working out, I’ve got kids, a full-time job, I’m tired all the time – I’ve got to clean, cook, do laundry, put the kids to bed, and whos going to watch my kids when I do have time?”
This is a big obstacle that stops millions of people from pursuing health and fitness. The “trapped” mentality that says “it’s just not in the cards right now”. When will it be though?
One hour. Just one. You have one hour. Let’s take a look
- 5am – wake up the household/breakfast
- 6am – take kids to school
- 7am – go to job/household job
- 8am – work
- 9am – work
- 10am – work
- 11am – work
- 12pm – lunch
- 1pm – work
- 2pm – work
- 3pm – pick up kids/kids get dropped off
- 4pm – family time
- 5pm – family time
- 6pm – start dinner
- 7pm – Dinner
- 8pm – clean/family time
- 9pm – Put kids to bed
- 10pm – go to bed.
That’s a pretty packed day. And that’s 5 days out of the week. My client has this day. She is a spearpoint in her family for functionality and warmth. And she also had this excuse: “I don’t have time”. She did though, she just didn’t perceive it as so. She now works out at 8pm. That is her “me” time. None of that schedule has “me” time in it. That will drive anyone crazy.
Setting an hour a day for yourself is crucial. You will be a better spouse, a better parent, a calmer YOU. Working out has given her “peace” as she put it. No one needs anything from her in the gym. She is doing something positive for her body, and her loved ones will benefit from it as well.
Health and fitness radiate. Not only in every aspect of your life, but in the contact with others around you. People can tell a difference. The pursuit of health IS part of the pursuit of happiness in my humble opinion. You have time. And if you don’t, make time. This is one of the most important hours of your day.
You don’t have to jump straight into an intense workout plan immediately, start by taking a walk. An hour’s walk. Practice taking one hour a day out of your day and make it “me” time. This one hour will change your life.
